BFAS Muscovite Skirmish Set

Muscovite army will almost always outnumber its opponent. The diversity of Muscovite units allows to adopt both defensive as well as offensive tactics, while high manpower level make it possible to forgive smaller mistakes. However, special attention should be paid to command and carefully planning your moves, as Muscovite commanders are not among the best in the game. The national Muscovite cavalry included a levy of nobility. The nobles were obliged to provide military service in return for the right to use land. This cavalry is called by various titles: opolchenie (levy of nobility), boyar cavalry, and pomiestna cavalry. The poorer nobility was referred to as the Boyar Sons, while the wealthier ones were known as Dvorians. The pomiestna cavalry was a typical medium-sized cavalry, with varying armor and equipment (with the dvorians generally being far better armored and armed), and of varying combat value. It performed on the battlefield tasks typical for cavalry, but rather auxiliary to the more skilled reiters. On the other hand, they could perform reconnaissance tasks, although, if necessary, also charge with a cold steel. The servant cossacks were a social and military formation located on the southern border of the Muscovite state. They were most of all obliged to mounted service, but could fight as infantry when necessary. They were armed with sabers, spears, sometimes pistols, long firearms and, according to some sources, the cossack regiments were also given several light cannons.

All units in this set have bases, movement trays and - when required - also spears/pikes and
banners. Miniatures are made of metal, horses are made of plastic. All miniatures require gluing
